Souped to attend The Blonds presentation @ Milk Studios tonight!

In the meantime, below are some notes on these shows I’ve video’d…

Betsey Johnson

Digging the nod to New York streets, here. Leave it to Betsey Johnson to open with biker bling (the familiar chain lock stands in for the ubiquitous cross-body bag) and end with fluorescent tufts of tulle and tafetta, all looks linked by the statement piece: her “Ride Me” necklace.

Alice + Olivia

In one word? Unimpressive. Cute. Playing it safe with retro trends doesn’t go much further than being pleasantly passé. The Alice + Olivia presentation felt more like an exhibition of stale styling (of textures and of times past) than an execution of eloquent design. [On that note, I regret not having a behind the scenes clip from my production work at Vera Wang to show you as comparison.]

Peter Jensen

The color blocking and Top Shop patent leather platforms at Peter Jensen were a similar blast from seasons past, but were nevertheless bold elements. The moo moos and Madeline-like cuts? Not so much. Bottom line: Stick to bold primary colors, not bland primary school fits.

Katie Gallagher

Futuristic and fabulous. Another great presentation by the one and only Katie Gallagher — styled by none other than Elle Mag’s Kate Lanphear (who graciously hung out after the show for chats and snapshots). And you know she wasn’t doing that for money or personal favor… It’s all about love for the vision. Enough said.
